Passover was instituted during the plague that brought the death of the firstborn in Egypt, the final and most devastating judgment God sent on Pharaoh and the land. God commanded the Israelites to choose a lamb without blemish, slaughter it at twilight, and apply its blood to the doorframes of their houses. They were to eat the roasted meat with unleavened bread and bitter herbs, ready to depart in haste. That night, the Lord would pass over the houses marked with blood and spare their firstborn, delivering the Israelites from bondage. This event established the Passover as a lasting memorial of God’s deliverance and protection.
